youth volunteers activated and engaged in community service
Jump Over the Odds was 1 of less than 180 youth-led projects from across the United States selected to receive funding through the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Student Service Grant Program. With a $1,000 grant supported by NASSP and the Allstate Foundation, we worked with a local facility to create a therapeutic garden for patients! This project was featured in a news segment and article on Live 5 News.
Through our involvement with the Ronald McDonald House “Meals That Heal” program, Jump Over the Odds volunteers prepared and served home-cooked meals for families with children receiving medical care nearby. We were able to extend care beyond patients, addressing the emotional and practical needs of families during difficult times. By offering warm meals and a welcoming atmosphere, our volunteers helped foster a sense of normalcy, comfort, and community for those far from home.
During the holiday season, Jump Over the Odds organized and distributed holiday care packages to patients and staff across our partner hospitals and care centers. Each package included comfort items, small gifts, and snacks to brighten spirits during a time that can feel isolating for many. With the help of our volunteers, we were able to spread warmth, kindness, and a sense of community to those spending the holidays in care facilities.
Through our Bracelet Kits Project, Jump Over the Odds volunteers assembled and delivered bracelet-making kits to hospitals and palliative care centers. Each kit included colorful beads, string, and an instruction card designed to give patients a fun activity and a memorable token. By allowing patients to craft their own bracelets, we encouraged moments of joy, self-expression, and mindfulness that extended beyond the walls of medical treatment.
Jump over the odds have hosted card-making volunteer projects that have produced over hundreds of handcrafted cards filled with heartfelt messages of hope and support. Each card, uniquely designed and written by volunteers, was delivered to patients in hospitals and palliative care centers to create a meaningful difference in someone’s day.
Through our partnership with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Jump Over the Odds has connected more than 40 volunteers to serve within the hospital community. Together, we’ve delivered over 100 care packages, hand written cards, and countless donations to patients and staff. This partnership continues to strengthen our mission of creating meaningful connections and spreading comfort to those in palliative and hospital care.
At Jump Over the Odds, our partnership with Agape Care Group extends our mission beyond hospital walls and into palliative care centers. Our team of volunteers has connected with elderly patients through heartfelt conversations, companionship, and care activities, while also delivering packages, cards, and donations to brighten their days. These moments of shared humanity remind us that emotional support can be just as healing as medical care.
